Madison College Study Abroad Scholarship
Madison College Study Abroad Scholarship is open to Madison College students that intend to enroll in a Madison College sponsored study abroad program for Spring 2023, Spring Break 2023, Summer 2023, or Fall 2023. Students must have completed a minimum of 12 college credits and earned a minimum GPA of 2.75 by the time of travel.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
Application deadline for Spring program - late September early October; Summer and Fall programs - late February early March. There is also an early Summer deadline in early October. Students are encouraged to apply during the early application period, as scholarship notifications then align with Summer program deadline dates.
Gilman- McCain Scholarship for Children of Active Duty Military Personnel
The U.S. Department of State’s Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child dependents of active duty service members to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs. Developed under the framework of the State Department’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, the John McCain International Scholarship for the Children of Military Families (Gilman-McCain Scholarship) is open to eligible students enrolled at accredited U.S. colleges and universities who receive any type of Title IV federal financial aid.
Application deadlines: Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Madison Gateway Scholarship
The Madison Gateway Scholarship application is open to any currently enrolled Madison Area Technical College (MATC) student applying to the Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Language Institute (APTLI). The scholarship covers full APTLI tuition to study Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish language at any level. The Madison Gateway Scholarship was created with the goal of increasing Less Commonly Taught Language (LCTL) learning for people of underserved populations, and create a pathway for success for MATC language students to attend APTLI. For Summer 2022, 2-4 full APTLI tuition student awards are available.

ICISP Founder's Study Abroad Scholarship
ICISP (Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs) Scholarships are in the amount of $500 for summer and $1,000 for semester programs. Students participating in an ICISP program are eligible to apply. Applications are due at the same time as the program application. Applications can be found in the ICISP Study Abroad program application through Madison College or at the link above. There is also a separate scholarship application for students applying to the ICISP Salzburg, Austria program. That application can be found in the Madison College program application.
Emil J. Frautschi Family Endowed Scholarship
The Emil J. Frautschi Family Endowed Scholarship is a Madison College Foundation scholarship. Students eligible for this scholarship include: Continuing students who have earned 6 or more credits at Madison College and are enrolled full-time (12 or more credits per semester) or part-time enrollment (6-11 credits per semester) with a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Students enrolled in any technical program and students enrolled in French language courses are eligible to apply. Students participating in French language learning activities such as the French Immersion study abroad program, may also be considered.

CCID Maxwell King Founders Study Abroad Scholarship
The CCID Maxwell King Founders Study Abroad Scholarship provides study abroad scholarships of $500 for participation in a global experience. Eligible global experiences include: short-term study abroad programs, semester study abroad programs, or virtual global learning programs of at least four weeks. See the CCID website for additional eligibility requirements and to start an application.

The Asia Institute's CCID Study Abroad Scholarship
In an effort to support the global competencies and knowledge of students, Community Colleges for International Development and The Asia Institute are offering scholarships supporting global research and international experiences for students. Madison College students participating in a global learning experience in Asia may apply for the scholarship, if they meet the other eligibility requirements. Boren Awards for International Study
Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Boren scholars represent a variety of academic backgrounds, but all are interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. The Fund for Education Abroad
The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number and diversity of American undergraduate students studying abroad. These scholarships are intended for under-represented students in study abroad including Community College students and students in science and technology fields. Scholarship amounts are up to $5000 for a semester program. The Fund for Education Abroad also has a specific scholarship available for African-American interested in studying abroad.
Application Deadline- September for Spring semester and January for following Summer and Fall.
BUTEX- British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association
Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad at a UK College or University for either a semester or for a whole academic year. The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.
Application Deadline- May for the following Fall and Spring semesters.
Go Overseas Study In Ireland Scholarship
The Go Overseas Study In Ireland Scholarship provides funding for students to participate on a study abroad program at certain Irish institutions. Students interested in applying for this scholarship, should contact the CIE office to discuss possible partner institutions in Ireland.

Freeman-ASIA
Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
Application deadline for Spring programs - early October; Summer programs - mid February; Fall programs - early April.
Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Scholarships
The Council for International Education Exchange (CIEE) offers a number of scholarships for students participating on their programs. Students may be eligible for the GAIN: Global Access Initiative Grant, the LIFT: Language Intensive Focus Track Scholarship, or a variety of other scholarships. Students that choose to study abroad on a CIEE program are encouraged to review all of the CIEE scholarships to review eligibility requirements. Application deadlines and eligibility requirements vary.
Students that apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship for Spring programs by the October deadline are guaranteed a $2,500 CIEE Gilman Go Global Grant -- plus they receive up to $2,000 to cover airfare to any study location.
Students applying to a CIEE Open Campus program in Berlin, Denmark, or Chile, are also eligible for an additional scholarship up to $6000. Students applying to a CIEE Open Campus program should contact Study Abroad to discuss the application process. Applications are due in September and January.
CIEE Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship and Summer Scholars Grants
The prestigious Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship (FDGF) welcomes applications from students of color enrolled at any U.S. college or university. The FDGF covers all program and travel costs for ten exceptional student leaders to participate in a summer study abroad experience designed to enhance their intercultural communication and leadership skills.
Application Deadline: Applications often open in November and are due in February.
The Frederick Douglass Summer Scholars Grant
The Frederick Douglass Summer Scholars (FDSS) Grant is a $1,500 grant that can be applied to the cost of any approved CIEE summer program. The FDSS grant is offered to all qualified FDGF applicants who are not selected as Frederick Douglass Global Fellows and recipients may choose from approved CIEE programs to advance their academic goals.
DiversityAbroad.com Scholarship
Diversity Abroad, in cooperation with the AIFS Foundation, offers $500 scholarships for fall, spring and summer study abroad. Five scholarships are available for the summer, and five are available for the fall and spring. Economically disadvantaged students, first-generation, students with disabilities and ethnically and racially diverse students are strongly encouraged to apply. Students must participate in a study abroad program offered by a DiversityAbroad.com partner organization.
Application Deadlines: April 1 for Summer; July 1 for Fall
Turkish Coalition of America Study Abroad Scholarships for Minority and Armenian American Students
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) has established a diverse array of scholarship programs that support its educational mission of engaging and cultivating a new generation of young Turkish American leaders, including the TCAdvange Scholarship program for Turkish American students. Additionally, a wide range of scholarships are available for American minority students wishing to study in Turkey and support TCA's mission to build people-to-people bridges between the United States and Turkey. Application deadlines and eligibility requirements vary.
The Critical Language Scholarship Program
The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a summer study abroad opportunity for American college and university students to learn languages essential to America’s engagement with the world. Students spend eight to ten weeks abroad over the summer studying one of 15 critical languages: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.
The CLS Program, a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is part of a U.S. government initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. CLS plays an important role in preparing American students for the 21st century’s globalized workforce and increasing national competitiveness.
The program includes:
Intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences,
Full scholarship covers all travel, tuition, housing, and a living stipend,
Participants may receive undergraduate academic credit for the equivalent of one year of language classes,
Language gains certified with the widely recognized ACTFL OPI test,
Non-competitive eligibility for U.S. government jobs for up to three years after program completion.
Work Immersion Study Program (WISP, Germany)
This scholarship program is for students to learn about German culture while participating in a paid summer internship in Germany. Applicants must have taken at least one semester of German, be 18 to 27 years old, enrolled in a community college, and majoring in a business or technical field. Students can apply to the program through Cultural Vistas.
Application deadline: December 1 for summer
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX, Germany)
CBYX is a year-long scholarship program that involves language study, academic courses and an internship in Germany. Applicants must be 18 to 24 years old at the start of the program and have a high school diploma or its equivalent. German language proficiency is not required, but strongly recommended. Students can apply online.

USA-Interns-Program, German-American Internship Program of the Steuben-Schurz-Society (SSS)
The SSG has acquired the support of numerous organizations, institutions, companies and individuals willing to provide students with internship opportunities. The positions cover a broad range of fields including business, international relations, engineering, PR, media, the natural sciences and the humanities in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors.Internships typically last 2-3 months and take place during the summer.
Application deadline: January for the following summer
