Program Overview

Study French in the beautiful province of Quebec at the Centre Linguistique du Collège de Jonquière and earn a semester’s worth of French language credit in five weeks! If you are looking for a high-quality language immersion program at a reasonable cost that does not require the bigger commitment of a semester or year abroad, this is the ideal program for you. Situated just two hours north of Quebec City in the midst of a majestic natural landscape, the community of Jonquière is 100% French-speaking and is very welcoming. Along with our Madison College faculty lead and other Madison College classmates, you will participate in Jonquière’s 5-week Explore program, which includes classroom language study as well as a plenitude of extra-curricular activities, all organized by staff at the school to create a fun and supportive French learning community. Extra-curricular activities might include theater workshops, short film production, circus workshops, art, basketball, geocaching, and more—all meant to enhance and deepen your study of the French language. Some weekend activities are also included, such as a trip to the lovely and historic Quebec City.

Course Information

Students participating in this study abroad experience will enroll in French 1, 2, 3 or 4 through Madison College and will receive four credits of language study upon successful completion of the program. With a grade of C or better, these credits will transfer to the UW-Madison and to most other four-year institutions, and you will be able to enroll in the next level of language study for the fall semester at Madison College. No previous French language study is required to enroll in French 1. Students that have completed French 1-4, may receive the equivalent of French 5 for 4 credits. Students will register for the credits in Spring semester, although travel will occur after the regular semester on campus has ended.
