Through rigorous language study, courses in Portuguese culture, homestays and various field trips and excursions, you’ll develop an appreciation of the country and its people while enjoying an intensive, exciting and unique intercultural experience.
Study abroad in Portugal and you will:
Live in Lisbon, the cultural and economic center of the Iberian Peninsula
Take language and culture courses offered in both English and Portuguese
Participate in cultural activities and excursions, including visits to museums and festivals; become familiar with Portuguese history, culture, and current affairs
Explore on a one day trip to Sintra, Mafra, or Óbidos; and one weekend trip to Évora, Porto, or Coimbra

This Madison College sponsored program is run by the Council for International Education Exchange (CIEE). Students will apply to Madison College and to CIEE for acceptance on the program.

A passport is required for U.S. citizens traveling abroad. If you need to apply for a passport, it is advised to allow at least 6 weeks for standard processing.
All students are required to attend two pre-departure orientations. These orientations provide information on health and safety, packing, trip planning, flight logistics, and other essential information.
