Overview of the program:

In this summer program students will travel to London, England, to study the performing and visual arts up close. This is an arts appreciation course and no performance skills are required. The class will take place during spring semester, with travel directly after the semester.

Course Information:

This is a unique arts-appreciation learning experience focused on the interconnectivity of Music, Theater, Dance, and Visual Arts. Students will attend performances, visit museums and historical sites, engage in daily seminars and discussions, and earn 3 Humanities credits. Historical, geographical, and cultural perspectives will be examined to enhance understanding of live performance experiences in both theater and music. Based on site-specific study, students will apply aesthetic values to the description of music and theater styles.

There are no pre-requisites, and following an online orientation the entire course will take place in London. With a very low student-teacher ratio, students will have the opportunity to personalize their learning experience and concentrate on an individual area of interest in their final project.
The two course options are:
20-805-232 – International Arts Intensive – Music (3 credits)
20-810-232 – International Arts Intensive – Theatre (3 credits)
This course will fulfill a Humanities requirement or serve as elective credit for either the A.A. or A.S. degree and is a transfer course.

Accommodation and Meals:

Participants will be housed in a dormitory-style hostel in central London. A group welcome dinner and a traditional afternoon tea are included. Remaining meal costs are the responsibility of the participants. A wide variety of affordable food options are available in the city.
